2012 Clos de La Tech Estate Pinot Noir Santa Cruz
94 points and editors choice Wine Enthusiast
Though much lower in price than the single vineyard offerings—and without the microchip on the label—this bottling carries all of the earthy aspects that characterize this iconoclastic winery. Umami aromas of nori wrap meet with dried purple flowers and blackberry on the nose. The mouthfeel is soft and full, with flavors full of loam, beet juice, incense and crushed boysenberry.
Winery Notes
2012 was the first vintage produced entirely at our new, underground winery. Having
complete control over every step of the winemaking process allowed us to micro-manage the
harvesting, sorting and vinifcation of our fruit. Couple that with another year of vine
maturity and we were able to produce some of our finest wines ever. The dark color is an
indicator of this wine’s amazing concentration. the aromatics are powerful and ripe with
cherries, blueberries, blackberries, slate and leather. The palate is rich, round and moderately
tannic. Our 2012 SCME is one big, serious, age-worthy bottle of Pinot Noir.
