In 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori, founder of Marchesi Antinori, joined—on the advice of his mother, Albiera—Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri, the Florentine wine guild. Giovanni was a visionary who believed that wine is a "fundamental part of the diet at all levels of society and two liters of quality wine should be consumed daily." Little did he know that 600 years later (in 1985), the 25th generation of Antinori wine producers, Piero Antinori, would bring a comparable vision to Napa Valley by establishing Antica Napa Valley. The 26th generation of Antinori chose to name its Premiere lot Antinori 1, in honor of Giovanni and his acumen, enterprising spirit and personal capacity. The winning bidder will receive 90 liters of 2010 estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon—which, according to Giovanni’s estimation, should last him or her 45 days! 18 months in new and 1 year french oak barrels Only 10 cases produced!
