93 points Robert Parker: "The brilliant 2000 Magari (6,000 cases) is a
blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. Its
opaque purple color is followed by a gorgeous perfume of espresso, new
saddle leather, blackberries, creme de cassis, smoke, and licorice. The
wine is full-bodied and opulently-textured, with fabulous fruit
concentration, great purity, and a savory, long mouthfeel. The tannin,
acidity, and wood are brilliantly integrated in this exceptional effort.
Anticipated maturity: now-2013. Kudos to Angelo Gaja, who has taken up
the challenge of producing great wines far from his home base in
Barbaresco. This debut release is immensely promising." (12/02) 90
points Wine Spectator: "A rich and inviting red. Complex aromas of
flowers, spices and figs, with hints of berries. Medium- to full-bodied,
with round, caressing tannins and a long, juicy finish. Gaja's new red
from Bolgheri. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best after
2004." (09/02)
